In 2025 I had a bold idea of starting a garden within my apartment complex. My gardening was limited to a small balcony space and I wanted the opportunity to plant in-ground. So, I acted on that idea.

I went to Menard’s and got wood, nails, and my brother-in-law helped me build my first garden bed. I placed this garden bed outside on the bottom floor, in the corner of the outside building but the downstairs neighbor was not happy about that at all. We talked, and the office told me I cannot place it there. SO, things worked out wonderfully because I asked to use the fenced-off space where a pool was filled in and the office manager said yes!

I could totally see this garden becoming a community garden. And with a proposal I created, it was approved. But, because the apartment complex is being sold, I have to hold things off for summer of 2026. There still may be hope for a community garden to begin next year, but for now, I am very grateful I could continue working on my garden bed!
